Striving to achieve a “net-zero” energy rating, this structure burrows into a hill to tap into the thermal stability of the earth. A south-facing glass wall invites passive solar heating while photovoltaic panels and geothermal heating will allow the house to exist virtually “off-the-grid.”  The house will be built as a hybrid prefab/site-built structure to benefit from reduced construction waste, a tighter envelope, and a faster move-in date.
